Why did I receive a time zone error message?

Your computer date and time might not be correct. Go to the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s website at time.gov to check that “Your current local time:” and “Your current UTC time:” match.  If that information isn’t accurate, please continue reading below for further instructions.

Time/Time Zone Error

If you’ve taken a look at your computer’s clock and it seems like something isn’t set quite right, then your computer is likely reporting the current time very differently from our servers. Our guess is that you’ve either got the wrong time, or more likely the wrong time zone, set. You will need to correct this before you can proceed.

Windows

  1. From the Start menu, navigate to your Control Panel.
  2. Double-click “Clock, Language, and Region.”
  3. Under “Date and Time,” click “Change the time zone.”
  4. Click on the button, and select the correct time zone if your current setting is wrong.
  5. Click OK.

Mac

  1. Click on the Apple Menu, and select “System Preferences.”
  2. Click on “Date and Time.”
  3. In the “Date & Time” tab, we suggest you enable “Set date and time automatically.”
  4. If you don’t want to do that, then click the “Time Zone” tab. And make sure the Time Zone is correct. Pay attention to Standard Time vs. Daylight Savings Time, as this can often cause the offset.
  5. Close the System Preferences once you are done.

Once complete, click the Recheck the Time button. You may need to restart your browser.
