Resources for Educators with Basic Accounts

On this page, you’ll find information and resources specific to you as an educator with a Basic Account.

About Basic Educator Accounts

If you are not employed by a Partner District, you can still sign up for a Basic Account. Educators who have Basic Accounts are able to use many of the tools on CaliforniaColleges.edu. However, Basic Account users are not able to access tools that require the upload of student transcript data, such as the CSU and UC Eligibility Tools.

Important Note About Basic Educator Accounts

If you don’t have a CaliforniaColleges.edu account, you won’t be able to access CaliforniaColleges.edu. If you don’t have a registered account and you’re not sure you’re in a district using Basic Accounts, please visit What to Do if You’re an Educator in a Non-Partner District.

Tutorials

Our interactive tutorials give you step-by-step instructions for how to use and navigate the educator tools on CaliforniaColleges.edu. To access the tutorials, simply click on the dark blue bars below for the type of resource you’re looking for. This will expand each section and allow you to see the different tutorials we have available to help you explore the platform. Clicking on the “Start the Tutorial” button will launch the tutorial in a new tab/window on your browser.

If you’ve never used one of our tutorials before, watch the video below to learn how to navigate one.

26 STEPS

1. Read the screen for more information.

Click the right arrow below the tutorial to advance to the next slide.

2. On the tutorial screen, you’ll find the title of the tutorial on the top right.

3. On the bottom right, you’ll find an information box that tells you how many steps there are in the tutorial and how long it should take for you to complete it.

4. Before moving on, we’ll go over how to change the learning mode of a tutorial.

This allows you to adjust the tutorial to the learning style that works best for you.

Click the Try It button on the bottom left of the tutorial.

5. Clicking on the button will lead to the Select Mode pop-up window, which lists the different learning modes.

Our tutorials default to the Try It mode, which allows you to interact with the tutorial as it goes through different steps.

6. The Scroll It mode provides you a list of steps and accompanying images.

The Slide It mode allows you to view the steps like you would a slide deck presentation.

The Watch It mode allows you to watch the tutorial like a video.

7. Click the X button on the top right of the tutorial to close the Select Mode pop-up window.

8. Next, we’ll go over how to change the language of the tutorial.

Click the Gear button at the bottom of the tutorial.

9. If you don’t see the Settings button, look for the three dots on the bottom menu and click on it.

10. In the popup menu, you’ll find the Settings button. Click the button.

11. Clicking on the Settings button will take you to the Settings pop-up window.

Click Change.

12. Clicking on Change will take you to the Choose Language menu, which is in alphabetical order. You can scroll down to find the language you want to translate the tutorial to.

13. You can also use the Quick Find function to find the language you’re looking for. Simply type the name of the language in the search box.

14. The language of your choice should appear as a choice beneath the search box if it is available.

15. Click the X button on the top right of the tutorial to close the Choose Language pop-up window.

16. The tutorial will automatically translate to the language you selected.

17. Next, we’ll go over how to download the tutorial as a PDF.

Click the Download button at the bottom of the tutorial.

If you don’t see the Download button, you can find it in the extended menu by clicking the three dots on the bottom menu again.

18. Choose the page orientation you want for the PDF. Click whichever orientation works best for you.

19. Click the X button on the top right of the tutorial to close the Download PDF pop-up window.

20. Next, we’ll go over how to view the tutorial in Full-Screen Mode.

To view the tutorial in Full-Screen Mode, click the Screen Mode button at the bottom of the tutorial.

21. To exit Full-Screen Mode, simply click the Screen Mode button again, and it will minimize the tutorial to its regular size.

22. Click the Start Tutorial button in the middle to start the tutorial.

23. When you start the tutorial, a few other buttons will appear.

When using Watch It mode, you can click the Pause/Play button at the bottom of the tutorial to play or pause the video at any time.

24. You can also use the left and right arrow buttons at the bottom of the tutorial to move back and forth between steps.

25. You can also zoom in and out of the page being displayed on the tutorial by clicking the Magnifying Glass button on the bottom of the tutorial.

26. And that’s it! You’re ready to start using the tutorials and experience what it’s like to use and navigate CaliforniaColleges.edu!

How to Assign Tasks to Students

A student’s My Tasks allows them to store and manage all of the tasks they assigned to themselves or that educators have assigned to them. Educators can assign tasks to students through Assignments in the Educator Dashboard.

How to Assign Grade Level Activities to Students

When students select My Activities from their dashboard, they’ll be taken to a page and tab labeled Your Activities. In Your Activities, students will find a list of grade-level specific activities they can complete. Educators can assign activities to students in grades other than those they were originally intended for. To do this, grade-level activities must be assigned as tasks.
