CaliforniaColleges.edu Updates: October 2024
Updates to the Financial Aid Reports
To simplify tracking of student completion of the Financial Aid Lessons, we combined the “What are the statuses of students’ financial aid modules for their current grade level?” and “How are students progressing toward completing the financial aid modules?” reports into one report: Financial Aid Module Completion.

The report helps educators determine which students have not yet completed the Financial Aid Lessons and target interventions to specific students. The report indicates student completion status of the Financial Aid Lesson modules. Educators can access the report via Report Management on the Educator Dashboard.

Announcement from the Office of Federal Student Aid and California Student Aid Commission
Last month, the Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) announced that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will undergo a period of testing before it becomes available to students on or before December 1, 2024.
Similarly, the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) announced that the 2025-2026 California Dream Act Application (CADAA) will align with FAFSA’s December 1 launch date. In addition, CSAC states that it will maintain CADAA access for mixed-status families, particularly federal aid-eligible students with contributors who lack a Social Security Number, until the FSA addresses associated challenges. The current priority deadline for the 2025-2026 CADAA is March 3, 2025.
In the meantime, we want you to be fully informed of the status of the Financial Aid Lessons on CaliforniaColleges.edu.
- The Financial Aid Lessons are up-to-date for 6th-11th grade students.
- For seniors, Module 1 of the 12th grade lessons is up-to-date.
- We intend to update the remaining 12th grade modules as soon as possible following the release of finalized versions of this year’s financial aid applications from the FSA and CSAC.
- The FAFSA/CADAA launch button will remain hidden/disabled until the FAFSA and CADAA are open to all students.
When visiting the 12th grade Financial Aid Lessons page, you will see a banner message at the top of the page encouraging seniors to complete Module 1 to prepare for when the financial aid applications open. A similar banner is present on the Educator Dashboard. See below for screenshots of the banners.
